On our recent stay in Mexico I added a few extra items to our packing list. By nature I am a complete overpacker. I have 4 outfits per day, triple the amount of underwear needed, and books that I will never have a chance to read. The books, not because I don’t like to read, but because I am too busy adventuring or hanging out with my family. Plus with my terrible anxiety on flights I cannot read on the plane either. I have to stick the earphones in and watch my favorite shows.
The number one item – a medicine kit. I filled a small pouch with bandaids and creams. In a larger bag I packed Tylenol, cough medicine, allegery medicine, medicine cups, other random medicines, and a thermometer. Taking a visit to a pharmacy for simple medicines can be costly.
Small pool floats. While you will not be able to take a personal pool float into a main hotel pool, we LOVED having our floats at our swim up pool. I personally loved having a float for in the ocean as well. Definitely not a necessary item, but it was one I was super happy to have. This is one of my favorites.

The climate in the Caribbean is super humid. I remember taking books one time and the humidity ruined the pages. A not necessary, but nice item to have are moisture absorbers. While we tried our best to keep the doors closed, humidity is inevitable in open air concept rooms. I ordered ours from Amazon – I ordered extra because they work well in our travel trailer too!
Another great item was the little buggable bracelets. These I used in Ecuador a few years ago and never had a single bite. We all wore them in Mexico and they worked very well. I did notice they sell them at local stores while in Mexico, but you will definitely want to purchase them ahead of time because they were certainly costly!

Suction cups! Ever try to find space to hang all of your wet clothes, bathing suits, towels, and washcloths?? We used these everyday to hang our wet bathing suits. The suction cups were also perfect for hanging a towel across the open concept shower area in order to give a little privacy. I ordered twelve and I probably could have used more. I attached them to the tile walls in our first hotel and the glass doors in our resort.

You may not know this, but many resorts do NOT have straws. Have you ever tried drinking a frozen drink without a straw? It is definitely possible, but can get messy. Thankfully at the last minute I grabbed reusaeble straws to have for our family. You can use either the silicone or the metal. The frozen drinks seemed to work better in the metal straws because they would get stuck in the silcone straws.
Just a few items that might not necesarily be on your radar to pack – but all were wonderful to have!
