What a wonderful time we had in Boston! State number 34 for me on my quest to 50. Our original intent behind going was for a concert, but we turned it into our summer vacay adventure. We arrived on a Thursday and checked into our hotel – which was in a perfect location. Right across from TD Gardens and near all a train station to get us everywhere we needed to be. I am a huge fan of using public transportation in areas I am not familiar with because sometimes driving a car can seem impossible.
On our full day of touring Boston we walked the 2.5 Freedom Trail. This trail begins at Boston Commons and ends at the Bunker Hill Monument. During the walk it will lead you to 16 different places that were key in the Revolutionary War. If you are a history buff, Boston is going to be a place you want to visit. We stopped by Paul Revere’s house, USS Constitution, Bunker Hill, and several other places.
When we came across the Quincy Market that was the “holy grail” for my husband. Every time we mentioned going to Boston he would say the Quincy Market in his best Bostonian accent. He did not even know what the actual market was – ha! If you are curious too, it is a ton of small booth restaurants and then it also hosts a few little gift shops.
Later in the day we took the train to Harvard. Walked around the campus and hit up the local bookstore, where my book loving daughter easily found a few items to pick up there. I kept congratulating her on her first college visit and told her next time we would schedule an official tour.
Our second day in Boston we headed to Fenway Park. There was a game that night, but we opted to do a tour of the park instead. The Dodgers were in town, so tickets were hard to get and super pricey. Not being a fan of either team (Go Braves!), we got out of that area just as the crowds started to arrive. Our next stop was the other side of Boston Common to ride on the swan boat, a walk through Beacon Hill, checked out the Cheers bar, and then ended the evening on the harbor.
We will plan to go back to Boston, at some point. On our list is Salem and a few other places nearby – which you can ride the train to from Boston. Making it super convenient. Looking forward to the next time!
